Star Trek: The Video Game Review

CheatCC says: "Typically, games created directly from movie licenses are total garbage. You would think that with a strong license it would be easier to create an engaging world within the confines of a video game. But time and time again, developers struggle to make anything of value, even though a lot of the creative legwork has already been done for them. This sad reality plagues licensed games as a whole."

Star Trek: The Video Game is the newest title from Digital Extremes.
Is the Enterprise flying high, or is it in need of some repairs?

Getting to blast away inside the new Enterprise is pretty cool, scouring for log audio clips, but in the context of this game you're just reminded of what could have been. And that's the problem. This could have been a great game. If everything had been tweaked a little more, the story had been given a bit of TLC, and the bugs ironed out, then this would have been a completely different review.

Its finally appeared. After being much-delayed, apparently to coincide with the film thats out next month, Star Trek The Videogame (as I think were calling it now) is out in the States now, and other parts of the world tomorrow (but for some reason Namco Bandai accidentally forgot to send review codes to ANYONE!). Perhaps I showed my hand regarding my thoughts on Star Trek, when I tweeted yesterday, Wow. Star Trek is terrible. But maybe I was bluffing? Heres wot I think:
I wasnt bluffing.

All in all, the game was fun for me, but thats almost entirely because its Star Trek. If youre a fan and you really want a new Trek fix, this game provides it pretty well. I definitely had moments where my inner nerd was happy.
However, if youre not a Trekkie (Trekker?), youre probably better off getting Injustice: Gods Among Us (review coming soon!) or Bioshock: Infinite.

Star Trek asks you to traverse a vast galaxy, but when the credits roll, youll wonder why you bothered when there was so little to discover along the way.
